Hi All, unless I've reached out to you about screening your final project in lecture tomorrow, you can turn in your final project tomorrow, Wednesday, or even Thursday.  Just be sure to give yourself enough time to do the extra credit and to study for the final.

Please upload your final video file to Youtube or Vimeo (preferred) by Wednesday before class, and then post the link to your blog.  If it's not on your blog, we may not have time to watch it.  There are a lot of projects to watch and it takes more time to look through my email, hard drives, etc. File > Export > Export media Use the following settings: Format: H264 Preset: Either Vimeo HD 1080 or Match Source High Bitrate Basic Video Settings: Match Source (1920x1080, 24fps, progressive field order, etc.) Quality: 90* check file output size at the bottom. for vimeo you'll need less than 500mb. but you still want it to be high quality Output Name: Project3_YourName

Hi, I changed the due date for Blog Post 4, because I didn't feel that one day was enough time for you to write the blog post, so it's due on 5/9.  You also have a rough draft of Project 3 due on that day, fyi.

1. Storyboard 2. Shot List, sequenced in the order you will shoot them (different from storyboard sequence, this is for time management) 3. Synopsis of your story (few sentences - 1 paragraph) and the shooting location.  Hand in the storyboards at the beginning of lecture on Wednesday. You can either handwrite the synopsis and shooting location on the back of the storyboard or put it in a blogpost.

Hi all, George (in the 3:10 lab) shot this really beautiful 1 minute piece outside class, and I wanted to share it with you.  The cinematography is great.  He said to watch it with the sound off. Something like this would work really well for Project 3.  Just add in a few more panels/shots and a shot that shows you understand on the continuity rules. (He "technically" breaks the 180 rule around 30 seconds.  For the purposes of the class exercise, you would first show him looking out the window, then show what he's looking at - skyline, something on the balcony, etc. - then you could put in the shot that's shot from the outside looking in.) The only sound effects for this piece were birds, and I really just layered them in with the music and the voice, but I used them selectively.  And this time, instead of messing with the pen tool, I just made really long fades at both ends, to blend them in with the voice and the music.  An easy way to do this is to start the fade a little before the subject stops talking, and then adjust as necessary.  Sort of the same idea with music...cut it at the end of a beat or transition and then start the fade out a little before that. I started with -24db for the SFX but then went down to about -35db.  Here are screenshots of the SFX layered in and the transitions.  (Add a transition with Command Shift D).  I put the same music at the end of the piece.  The piece is actually a little longer, but I thought 4 minutes was enough for you to listen to and get the idea.... Hi All, I edited an audio interview I did last year with my Dad to clarify the pacing and music components of creating an audio portrait.  It was a voiceover to a short film, but I just turned it into an audio portrait with music and sfx for the purposes of this class.  Later today I'll post a tutorial for the SFX aspect. The concept is that as my dad has been getting older, he's spending time thinking about tying up lose ends his life and also re-analyzing events and relationships in his past.  One of those lose ends is a farm that's been in our family for over a hundred years.  He begins the interview talking about himself and then goes into the story of the last time he took his mother - who was born on the farm - to the farm, before she died. I thought this would work well for a demo because a lot of you have a similar construct...it's a portrait of someone told through a story that demonstrates some aspect of who they are. Hi, we haven't been given the final description for Project 3, the continuity project, but I'm posting the description from last semester. The concept will be the same, but some things may be changed.  I'll post the description from this semester once we receive it. A couple of notes on the description below: -final piece should be around 4 minutes, so these are more like 15-30 second scenes -there's no dialogue, so you'll be adding in ambient recordings, sound effects and music -you'll probably need permission to shoot in the library and the gym -you can choose your partner for this piece but it needs to be someone you've never worked with before Create a scene with a clear beginning, middle and end, using one actor.
